APPOINTMENTS: Retirement Commission <br /> <br /> Mr, Gene Harding was reappointed and Mr. Henry Kinnier was appointed to three- <br />year terms on the Retirement Commission, and Mr. Roosevelt Barbour was appointed to an <br />unexpired term on the Retirement Commission. Mr. Harding and Mr. Kinnier's terms wi!! <br />expire on June 30, 2000, and Mr. Barbour's term will expire on June 30, 1999. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br />Mr. Cox asked if it is the City's practice to require employees to be City residents. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connel! explained that the practice varies, but most City employees are not <br />required to be City residents. Mr. O'Connell said that there was no residency requirement for <br />the position of Public !rfformation Officer. <br /> <br />Mr. Cox said he thnks the new Police Chief should be required to live in the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Covmel! said that there is no legal requirement that the Police Chief live in the <br />City, and noted that such a requirement realistically means eliminating consideration of <br />certain people intemal!y~ <br /> <br />Ms. Richards asked that the salary issue for the Public Information Officer be clarified. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connell noted that he has provided information to Council in their packets on the <br />position. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Mr. Toscano, Council voted to meet in <br />executive session for the purpose of dealing with a personnel matter as provided by Section <br />2.1-344(A)(1) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> <br />
