125 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the P,.ivanna River has been the subject of a citizen's study, the Rivanna <br />River Roundtable, fbr the past year; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the James River far exceeds the criteria for American Heritage Rivers <br />Designation because of its rich history, culture, natural resources, economic development, <br />and community involvement; <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED that the Charlottesville City Council <br />supports the designation of the James River as an .&merican Heritage River and urges the <br />President of the United States to declare the James River as the first often American <br />Heritage Rivers to be designated in 1997, with the hope that this designation .will be <br />expanded upstream in fhture years to include the historic Rivanna River. <br /> <br />c. APPROPREttTION: $35,307 - COPS More Grant (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the CiW of Charlottesvil!e, Virginia, that the <br />sum of $35,370.00 is hereby appropriated from the unappropriated balance of the General <br />Fund to expenditure account t !-270-04 ! ! 5 ! to provide local matching funds for the <br />COPSMORE grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The program will generate <br />$106, ! 10 in federal grant funds to support overtime payments for community policing <br />activities, a civilian property clerk position and a civilian training coordinator position. <br /> <br />d.
