53 <br /> <br />provide leadership for developing alternatives for youth, <br />such as creating teen centers and parks and recreation <br />programs. <br /> <br /> It was recommended that the Mayor convene a meeting with <br />landlords of property suspected of housing illegal activities <br />after consultation with staff. <br /> <br /> It was recommended that the State delegates be contacted <br />regarding the status of issues remaining from previous <br />Council legislative packages. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that incentives be explored <br />for offering second story housing downtown and Mr. Hendrix <br />explained that the Director of Economic Development is <br />currently working on a pilot project involving such housing. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that the City contact CSX <br />executives to further negotiate exempting height regulations <br />for the replacement of the Ridge Street Bridge and Rev. <br />Edwards stated that he has in the process of setting up such <br />a meeting. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that the City further explore <br />putting bike lanes between downtown and the University. <br /> <br /> The possibility of holding a work session with the <br />Social Development Commission was discussed which could <br />include affirmative action issues raised concerning the <br />police department as well as city wide. <br /> <br />ent f <br /> <br />ourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - October 1, 1990 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Waters, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the <br />minutes of the September 4th meeting were approved as <br />presented, with Mr. Vandever abstaining. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Waters, the <br />minutes of the September 17th meeting were unanimously <br />approved as cOrrected. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />minutes of the September 19th meeting were unanimously <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Vandever, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the <br />minutes of the September 20th meeting were unanimously <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Cartie Lomanac thanked the Mayor for procl'aiming <br />October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: ARTS ALIVE: THEATRE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE - "KIDS ONLY" <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards presented the cast and director of the Arts <br />Alive: Theatre for Young People's production of "Kids Only" <br />with a resolution congratulating them on the success of their <br />performances. <br /> <br /> <br />
