62 <br /> <br />the Drug Coordinator to coordinate drug prevention activities <br />and events and otherwise better educate the community on the <br />drug issue. <br /> <br /> Mr. Louie Chapman, Assistant City Manager, explained <br />that the Curry School of Education is in the process of <br />designing an evaluation program for the drug efforts. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recommended that the Drug Coordinator <br />provide data on such things as waiting lists for treatment <br />programs as well as identify other tools available to Council <br />to deal with the drug situation, such as the proposed curfew <br />ordinance. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pullen recommended that the Drug Coordinator act as <br />a clearinghouse, or focal point, for drug related programs <br />in the community. <br /> <br /> Ms. Joy Johnson, a member of the public, recommended <br />that a teenager be appointed to ~he Advisory Board or <br />work closely with the Drug Coordinator and that the <br />Coordinator work with parents-who ~are trying to keep their <br />children off of drugs. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters suggested that Council confirm the current <br />membership of the Board and fill in gaps in membership where <br />necessary. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gerald Strand, Drug Coordinator, noted concern with <br />the lack of available resources and his lack of authority to <br />effect change. <br /> <br /> Council members indicated that change could occur by <br />the Advisory Board and Coordinator making recommendations to <br />Council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Johnson stated that she felt it was important for <br />the Drug Coordinator to be visible in the community in order <br />to see what is happening and make recommendations on what is <br />needed. <br /> <br /> Rev.
