94 <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: .~BABE RUTH BASEBALL TEAM <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe read a Proclamation congratulating the <br /> C. B. Baker League 16 year old Babe Ruth Baseball Team for <br /> their successful season, <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters preSented the proclamation to the coach and <br /> team members. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the C. B. Baker~League 16~Year Old Babe Ruth <br /> Baseball Team had a very successful 1989 season; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Team won the District Championship in <br />Louisa, Virginia and the State Championship in Manassas, <br />Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Team~represented the State of Virginia and <br />the Charlottesville community in the~Southeast regionals in <br />Havelock, North Carolina, earning~the respect of all <br />participantS.for their sportsmanship on and off the field; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, on behalf of the community, would like to <br />congratulate the players, coach and managers of the 16 Year <br />Old Babe Ruth Team for their outstanding season and their <br />individual'and team accomplishments. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND CO-~4ISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Towe, Council <br />unanimously reappointed Mr. William Harris and appointed Mr. <br />Blake Caravati to four-year terms on the Planning Commission. <br />These terms will expire on August 31, 1993. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Vandever, Council <br />unanimously reappointed Mr. Edward Strickler and Ms. Rheva <br />Williams and appointed Ms. Ruth Barolsky, Mr. Herman Key, Mr. <br />George Loper, and Ms. Cynthia Stratton to three-year terms <br />and appointed Ms. Moraeg Wood to an unexpired term on the <br />the Social Development Commission. These terms will expire <br />on August 31, 1992, except for Ms. Wood's term which will <br />expire on August 31, 1991. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $5,000 - VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS GRANT: <br />VIRGINIA DISCOVERY MUSEUM AND PIEDMONT COUNCIL OF THE ARTS <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br /> The $5,000 appropriation to the Virginia Discovery <br />Museum and Piedmont Council of the Arts which was offered at <br />the August 7th meeting was approved by the following vote. <br />Ayes: Mr. Buck, Rev. Edwards, Mr. Towe, Mr. Vandever, Ms. <br />Waters. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Commission for the Arts has <br />notified the City of its grant award in the LOcal Government <br />Challenge Grant category; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that $3,400 of the amount r~served <br />from such grant is hereby appropriated to Grants Fund <br />expenditure account 11-042-071050 for use by the Piedmont <br />Council for the Arts for its activities during the 1989-90 <br />fiscal year, and $1,600 of the amount reserved from such <br />grant is hereby appropriated to Grants Fund expenditure <br />account 11-042-071060 for use by the Virginia Discovery <br />Museum for its activities during the 1989-90 fiscal year. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />$511,320 - GIRLS ATTENTION HOME RENOVATIONS <br /> <br /> The ~511,320 appropriation for the Girls Attention Home <br />Renovations which was offered at the August 7th meeting was <br /> <br /> <br />
