192 <br /> <br /> Program. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $24,250 - CARRYOVER FUNDS FOR LIBRARY (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> The $24,250 appropriation of carryover funds for the <br /> library which was offered at the February 5th meeting was <br /> approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck, Rev. <br /> Edwards, Mr. Towe, Mr~ Vandever, Ms. Waters. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library accrued <br /> a budget surplus in fiscal year 1988-89, and the City's share <br /> of such surplus is determined to be $24,365; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Library Board has requested that $24,250 of <br /> this surplus be used for the purpose of funding certain <br /> projects which did not receive funds in fiscal year 1988-89; <br /> now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that $24,365, received as revenue <br />from the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library is hereby <br />appropriated to the General Fund balance and $24,250 is <br />hereby appropriated to account 05-302-074010-56101 to the <br />Jefferson-Madison Regional Library for the above-stated <br />purpose. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: MICHIE COMPANY <br /> <br /> The resolution encouraging the MichieCompany to remain <br />in the downtown business district was offered by Mr. <br />Vandever, seconded by Rev. Edwards and unanimously approved <br />by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Michie Company Law Publishers has been a <br />valued member of Charlottesville's downtown business district <br />since 1897; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Michie Company has contributed <br />significantly to the economic vitality of the entire <br />Charlottesville community and has been a highly respected, <br />responsible and supportive corporate citizen; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville City Council has recently <br />reaffirmed its belief that the city as a whOle benefits and <br />indeed relies upon a healthy and stable economy in the <br />downtown area, supported by major employers such as the <br />Michie Company; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville would like to thank the Michie Company for <br />its long standing commitment to the Charlottesville community <br />and encourage their continued presence in the downtown <br />business district. <br /> <br />RESOLUTIONS: <br /> <br />RENEWING SIDEWALK CAFE PERMIT FOR THE COFFEE EXCHANGE <br />RENEWING SIDEWALK CAFE PERMIT FOR THE NOOK <br />RENEWING SIDEWALK CAFE PERMIT FOR O'DOWDS <br />RENEWING SIDEWALK CAFE PERMIT FOR SAL'S <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />resolutions renewing the sidewalk cafe permits for the Coffee <br />Exchange, the Nook, O'Dowds, and Sal's were unanimously <br />approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville Coffee Exchange, Inc. has <br />applied to City Council for a permit to operate an outdoor <br />cafe on the pedestrian mall in the 100 block of East Main <br />Street, in connection with the operation of its duly licensed <br />restaurant at 120 East Main Street; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council finds that the proposed outdoor <br />cafe is in keeping with the intent of the pedestrian mall, <br />can add significantly to successfUl commerce in the downtown <br /> <br /> <br />
