Mr. O'Connell explained that a
resolution has been prepared which, if approved, would
indicate Council's willingness to appropriate up to $3,800
for overtime for Police if the local effort is unable to
cover all the cost. Mr. O'Connell stated that the second
reading of the appropriation would be deferred.

Mr. Buck made a motion to move the resolution.

Mr. Vandever stated that he had concerns about
appropriating funds for the Tour de Trump because he did not
see that any local control over the event existed and was not
convinced of the Tour's benefit to Charlottesville.

Rev. Edwards stated that he shared Mr. Vandever's views
and while he supported the Tour de Trump coming through
Charlottesville, he would like to see more evidence of how
the City profits from the event.

Mr. Towe stated that he would support the resolution and
noted that approximately 600 hotel rooms will be rented for
the event and that he felt it was good exposure for
Charlottesville and its efforts to increase tourism. Mr.
Towe seconded the resolution.
