146 <br /> <br />$277,000 to be received from the state be used for the <br />following: reinstate the guidance counselor at Buford School <br />and the life skills teacher at Walker; and approximately $285 <br />to go into each school employee's benefit plan. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH <br /> <br /> Ms Kay Peaslee, representing the League of Women <br />Voters~ read a proclamation designating March as Women's <br />History Month. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter made a motion to approve the proclamation, <br />recognizing Jill Rinehart, Nancy O'Brien, Mary Alice Gunter, <br />and Elizabeth Gleason who had preceded Ms. Slaughter and Ms. <br />Waters on Council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters seconded the motion and March was unanimously <br />declared Women!s History Month by Council. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $1,431 - DRUG SEIZURE ASSETS (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> The $1,431 appropriation of drug seizure assets which <br />was offered at the February 19th meeting was approved by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Rev. Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. <br />Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Police Department of the City of <br />Charlottesville has received funds totalling $1,431.00, <br />representing money obtained from the sale of assets lawfully <br />seized by the City Police Department from persons <br />subsequently convicted of drug related crimes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said funds have been deposited with the <br />Treasurer of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the federal policies authorize the City Police <br />Department to receive and spend such proceeds provided the <br />expenditure is on drug related law enforcement matters; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that such $1,431.00 shall be <br />appropriated to the following police expenditure accounts: <br /> <br />Amount Expenditure Account Use <br />$i,287 05-270-041110-53103 Telephone <br />144 05-270-041110-53175 Public Education <br /> <br />$1,431 <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />$4,445 - DONATION FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM <br /> <br /> The $4,445 appropriation of the donation for the <br />Independent Living Program which was offered at the February <br />19th meeting was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Rev. <br />Edwards, Ms. Slaughter, Mr. Toscano, Mr. Vandever, Ms. <br />Waters. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that the sum of $4,445.00, <br />received as an anonymous donation to the Charlottesville <br />Department of Social Services for the continuation of the <br />Independent Living Coordinator position, is hereby <br />appropriated to expenditure account 12-161-062279 for such <br />purpose. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: ~5,500 - EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM GRANT <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the grant would continue the <br />program which provides emergency food and shelter to eligible <br /> <br /> <br />
