259 <br /> <br />$30,000 had been spent on renovations to bring the building <br />up to Code requirements <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter asked if a count of City~children who <br />visited the Museum was available. <br /> <br /> ~Ms. Linden replied that~only group counts are available <br />and she would Provide Council with this information'after the <br />meeting. <br /> <br /> -Ms. Slaughter stressed that it was important to be aware <br />of who the Museum is serving since public fUnds have <br />supported the Museum. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters made a motion~to approve the resolution <br />extending the loans, and encouraged the Museum Board to use <br />this as an opportunity to continue to work towards <br />self-sufficiency. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Toscano seconded the motion andrequested that a <br />status report on the.fund raising efforts of~the Museum be <br />provided to Council on January 1st. <br /> <br /> The resolution extending the loans to. the Virginia <br />Discovery Museum was.unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by Memorandum of Understanding dated November <br />30, 1989, the City of Charlottesville agreed to loan $50,000 <br />to the Virginia Discovery~Museum to,defray the costs of <br />renovating the building at 524 E. Main Street for use as a <br />children's-museum; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the loan was made in two installments as <br /> <br />follows: <br /> <br /> Date of Loan <br /> <br /> June 18, 1990 <br /> August 10, 1990 <br /> <br />Loan Amount <br /> <br />_ $20,000 <br /> 00 <br />$30,000.00 <br /> <br />D~te Dq9 <br /> <br />June'18,~1991 <br />August 10, 1991 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the Virginia~Discovery Museum has requested a <br /> one year extension of the due date for each loan;and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Discovery Museum haS been <br /> successful in attracting families to the downtown mall and <br /> providing a high quality educational experience for thousands <br /> of~children; now; therefore, . <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville, Virginia, that the two loans to the Virginia <br /> Discovery Museum referenced above are hereby combined into <br /> one loan in the amount of ~$50,000 with a new due date of June <br /> 30, 1992. The City Attorney~is directed to draft a <br /> promissory note for signature by Virginia Discovery Museum, <br /> Inc. under ~the-same terms as-~the original lOans.with the <br /> exception of the new due date. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING OUTDOOR CAEE FOR ]CHUBBY'S RESTAURANT <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the owners of Chubby's <br />Restaurant have requested apProval for an outdOor cafe on.the <br />downtown mall to the east of the NoOk's Cafe. Mr. Hendrix <br />explained that the Health Department has approved the .cafe <br />location and the Board~of Architectural Review has looked at <br />the design. Mr. Hendrix noted that two letters of concern <br />have been, received about the cafe:~.~from the owner' of the <br />building in which Chubby's Restaurant is located, and from <br />the Charlottesville Downtown Foundation (CDF). <br /> <br /> Ms. Maurene Gallagher, owner of Chubby"s Restaurant, <br />requested.-that Council.grant the pe]rmit~for the cafe, noting <br />that she is an experienced restauranteur and-had complied <br />with all regulations. <br /> <br /> <br />
