• AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND CHAPTER 30 OF THE <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, BY REPEALING SECTION 30-8 <br />AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION <br />NUMBERED 30-8.1 <br />IN ORDER TO RECONSTITUTE THE <br />WELFARE ADVISORY BOARD AS A <br />SOCIAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD <br />AS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville: <br />1. That §30-8 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended is <br />hereby repealed. <br />2. That Chapter 30 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, is hereby <br />amended by adding a section numbered 30-8.1 as follows: <br />Section 30-8.1. Social Services Advisory Board. <br />There is hereby created a Social Services Advisory Board for the City which <br />• shall consist of seven members, one of whom shall be a member of the City <br />Council. Of the members first appointed, two shall be appointed for terms of two <br />years, two for terms of three years and two for terms of four years. The term of <br />the City Council member shall be concurrent with his service on the Council. <br />Subsequent appointments shall be for a term of four years each except that <br />appointments to fill vacancies shall be for the unexpired terms. No person shall <br />serve more than two consecutive terms. The Director of Social Services shall be <br />an ex officio member, without vote, of the Social Services Advisory Board. <br />The powers and duties of the Social Services Advisory Board shall be as <br />follows: <br />(1) To interest itself in all matters pertaining to the social welfare of the <br />people of the City. <br />(2) To monitor the formulation and implementation of social welfare programs <br />in the City. <br />(3) To meet with the Director of Social Services at least four times a year <br />for the purpose of making recommendations on policy matters concerning the <br />Department of Social Services. <br />(4) To make an annual report to the City Council, concurrent with the <br />• presentation of the annual budget, concerning the information of the public welfare <br />program. <br />
