• Sec. 10-34. Resubmission of delinquent lists to city <br />council; subsequent collections. <br />(a) At the expiration of one year following June 30 of the <br />year as of which such delinquent lists speak, the city treasurer <br />shall again submit a copy of each of the lists mentioned in <br />paragraphs (b) and (c) of section 10-28 to the city council at <br />its first meeting held after the expiration of such year. Such <br />lists so resubmitted shall show the changes which have occurred <br />since June 30 of the preceding year, and the city treasurer shall <br />continue his efforts to collect the then unpaid real estate taxes <br />upon the real estate included in the list mentioned in paragraph <br />Ebl of section 19-28 until the real estate shall be sold under <br />the provisions of sections 58-1929 to 58-4833 Article 4. Chapter <br />34, of Title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia. <br />Ebi The city council may authorize and require the city <br />treasurer to continue to collect the delinquent taxes included in <br />the list mentioned in paragraph Ec+ of section 49-28 for an <br />additional period of two years or may place the same in the hands <br />of the city sheriff for collection; or employ a delinquent tax <br />collector to make such collections; upon such terms as may be <br />agreed upon.- Such officer or collector shall have all the power <br />and authority to enforce collection by levy,- distress or <br />otherwise as the city treasurer has ander the law.- <br />• (b) The city attorney and assistant city attorneys shall <br />assist the treasurer in bringing suit to sell lands delinquent in <br />excess of three years, as provided by state law. The treasurer <br />is authorized to post the necessary bonds for such attorneys to <br />act as special commissioners for the sale of delinquent lands. <br />• <br />tci When any such collections shall be made by such officer <br />or collector,- the same shall be reported by him to the city <br />council and the money shall be paid over the city treasurer,- who <br />shall be held accountable therefor.- All lists of uncollected <br />taxes shall be returned by such officer or collector to the city <br />council,- which shall deliver them to the city treasurer,- who <br />shall thereafter be held accountable for any collections <br />thereunder. - <br />(c) After the second listing of delinquent taxes on <br />personal property, machinery and tools the treasurer shall <br />continue to collect the same for an additional two years. At the <br />end of that time the treasurer shall return an updated delinquent <br />list to council together with the remaining unpaid tax tickets, <br />and after review by the committee referred to in section 10-30, <br />the treasurer shall be given credit for such amounts and shall <br />not be required to make further collections thereon. <br />7 <br />
