or common areas of multi -family buildings shall remain the <br />responsibility of the owner at all times. The owner remains <br />responsible for the necessary service or replacement of all <br />other smoke detectors, but interim testing, repair and maintenance <br />of such smoke detectors within individual units shall be the <br />responsibility of the tenant; provided, however, that if an owner <br />receives written notice from any-searee the tenant that any such <br />smoke detector is in need of service, repair or replacement, such <br />owner shall be obligated to service, repair or replace any such <br />malfunctioning smoke detector within five days of receipt of <br />such notice. <br />(d) Any building containing fewer than four dwelling units <br />which was not in compliance with the foregoing subsections of <br />this section on July 1, 1984 shall be exempted from the require- <br />ments of this section until such time as that building or any <br />dwelling unit therein is sold or rented to another person. <br />(e)' The City fire department shall bear the primary respon- <br />sibilitz for enfo <br />responsibility as <br />public works deoa <br />z <br />at the request of the tire department as <br />were a section of Chapter 13 of this Code. <br />• Approved by Council <br />January 22, 1985 <br />r< of Council <br />85-7-4 <br />e such <br />on oT—the <br />nforce <br />o�F_i t <br />
