<br />31-211, 31-214, 31-217 AND 31-233 OF THE CODE
<br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS AMENDED,
<br />RELATING TO THE DEFINITION OF MARQUEE, TEMPORARY
<br />AND PORTABLE SIGNS; REQUIRED SIDE YARD DIMENSIONS; DEFINITION
<br />AND USE OF MANUFACTURED HOMES; ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL PRO-
<br />CEDURES IN DESIGN CONTROL DISTRICTS; PARKING SPACE DIMENSIONS;
<br />IMPROVED OFF-STREET PARKING IN CERTAIN RESIDENTIAL ZONES;
<br />STANDARDS FOR TEMPORARY AND PORTABLE SIGNS; SIGN APPROVAL
<br />PROCEDURES IN THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONTROL DISTRICTS;
<br />NON-COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING; INSURANCE FOR SIGNS OVER PUBLIC
<br />PROPERTY; SITE PLAN REVIEW FOR REMOVAL OF CERTAIN TREES, AND
<br />PROTECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING TREES; REQUIRING AS -
<br />BUILT SITE PLANS FOR CERTAIN DEVELOPMENT; AND APPEALS OF SITE
<br />PLANS FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottes-
<br />ville, Virginia, that sections 31-3, 31-16, 31-23, 31-33, 31-81,
<br />31-117.1, 31-119, 31-120, 31-147.2, 31-159, 31-174.1, 31-180, 31-
<br />182.1, 31-184, 31-191, 31-193, 31-199, 31-199.1, 31-211, 31-214,
<br />31-217 and 31-233 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville,
<br />1976, as amended, are hereby amended and reordained as follows:
<br />Sec. 31-3. Generally.
<br />For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms or
<br />words shall have the meanings ascribed to them by this section:

<br />Sign marquee. A sign attached to or from a marquee, canopy
<br />or other covered structure projecting from and supported by the
<br />building and extending beyond the building wall, building line or
<br />street lot line.

<br />Signs, temporary or portable. A sign, usually placed for a
<br />limited time period, not securely anchored to the ground or to a
<br />building or structure and which may obtain some or all of its
<br />structural stability with respect to wind or other normally
<br />applied forces by means of its geometry or character.

<br />Sec. 31-16. Yard regulations.
<br />The following requirements shall be met except as provided
<br />in article XXI of this chapter.
