0 <br />• <br />0 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />REQUIRING CERTAIN LANDLORDS TO INSTALL <br />DEADBOLT LOCKS AND PEEPHOLES AT THE REQUEST OF TENANTS <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that Article I of Chapter 5 of the <br />Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, is <br />amended by adding Section 5-3.2, as follows: <br />Section 5-3.2. Installation of deadbolt locks and <br />peepholes. <br />fa) Any landlord who rents five or more dwelling <br />units, as defined in the Virginia Residential Landlord <br />and Tenant Act, in any one building shall install, upon <br />the written request of the tenant and at a cost to the <br />tenant of not more than twenty-five dollars per lock and <br />ten dollars per peephole, deadbolt locks which meet the <br />requirements of the Uniform Statewide Building Code for <br />new multi -family construction and peepholes in any <br />exterior swinging entrance door to any such unit. Any <br />door having a glass panel shall not require a peephole. <br />(b) Anv landlord subiect to this section shall have <br />a reasonable time in which to comply with its require- <br />ments. For purposes of this section, thirty days <br />following receipt of the written request of the tenant <br />shall be deemed a reasonable time. <br />Approved by Council <br />March 21, 1988 <br />CerC� until <br />
