(c) Yelling, shouting, etc. Yelling, shouting, hooting, <br />whistling, or singing on the public streets, particularly during <br />the nighttime, or at any time or place so as to annoy or disturb <br />• unreasonably the quiet, comfort, or repose of persons. <br />(d) Defect in vehicle or load. The use of any motor <br />vehicle, motorcycle or vehicle so out of repair, so loaded or in <br />such manner as to create loud and unreasonable grating, <br />grinding, rattling or other noises. <br />(e) Exhausts. The discharge into the air of the exhaust of <br />any steam engine, stationary internal combustion engine, or <br />motor vehicle or motorcycle engine except through muffler or <br />other device which will effectively prevent loud and explosive <br />noises therefrom. <br />(f) Schools, courts. churches, hospitals. The creation of <br />any excessive noise on any street adjacent to any school, <br />institution of learning, or court while they are in session, or <br />adjacent to any hospital, which unreasonably interferes with the <br />workings of such institution, or which unduly disturbs or annoys <br />patients in the hospital; provided, conspicuous signs are <br />displayed in such streets indicating that any street is a <br />school, hospital or court street. <br />16.2-5. Exemptions. <br />• (a) The following activities or sources of noise shall be <br />exempt during the daytime hours from the prohibitions set forth <br />in Section 16.2-3: <br />• <br />(1) Band performances or practices, athletic contests <br />or practices and other school -sponsored activities on the <br />grounds of public or private schools or the University of <br />Virginia. <br />(2) Athletic contests and other officially sanctioned <br />activities in city parks. <br />(3) Activities related to the construction, repair, <br />maintenance, remodeling or demolition, grading or other improve- <br />ments to real property. <br />(4) Gardening, lawn care, tree maintenance or removal, <br />or other landscaping activities. <br />(5) Church bells or carillons. <br />(6) Public and private transportation, refuse <br />collection and sanitation services. <br />(b) The following activities will be exempt during all hours <br />from the prohibitions set forth in Section 16.2-3: <br />3 <br />
