• AN ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING AND REORDAINING SECTIONS 16-63.1, 16-63.2, 16-63.3, <br />16-63.4 AND 16-63.5 OF ARTICLE IV OF CHAPTER 16 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS AMENDED, <br />AND ADDING A NEW SECTION NUMBERED 16-63.1.1, <br />ALL REGULATING THE USE OF BICYCLES AND MOPEDS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville, Virginia that Sections 16-63.1, 16-63.2, 16-63.3, 16-63.4 <br />and 16-63.5 of Article IV of Chapter 16 of the Code are hereby <br />amended and reordained, and a new section, 16-63.1.1 is hereby <br />added, as follows: <br />ARTICLE IV. BICYCLES AND MOPEDS. <br />Sec. 16-63.1. "Bicycle" defined. <br />For purposes of this article, the term "bicycle" shall mean <br />a vehicle upon which a person may ride, propelled solely by human <br />power. having pedals. two f2) or more wheels. and a seat height <br />of more than twenty-five f25) inches from the ground when <br />adiusted to its maximum height. through a belt; ehain or gears <br />and having twe wheels in tandem- Sueh term shall inelude pedal <br />bieyeles; with helper meters rated less than one brake horse- <br />• pewer; whieh preduee only ordinary pedaling speeds up to a <br />maximum of twenty miles per heur; provided sueh bieyeles se <br />equipped shall net be operated upon any highway,- street or publie <br />vehieular area of this eity by any person under the age of <br />sixteen years - <br />Sec. 16-63.2. Registration; inspection. <br />Any bicycle or mooed owner residing in the city, who desires <br />to do so, may register his or her vehicle with the city fire <br />department and present the same for inspection as to its safe <br />operating conditions, during such times and according to such <br />procedures as may be established by the fire chief or his or her <br />designee. Such inspection shall include any examination of the <br />operational safety of the wheels, tires, frame, fork, seat, <br />brakes, pedals, chain, handlebars, lights, reflectors and other <br />working parts or safety features of such vehicle bieyele. Upon <br />such inspection and approval the fire chief or his or her <br />designee shall issue to the owner of the vehicle bieyele a <br />1 <br />
