• <br />is <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />TO AMEND AND REORDAIN SECTION 5-4 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS AMENDED, <br />TO AUTHORIZE COLLECTION OF A STATE SURCHARGE <br />ON BUILDING PERMIT FEES. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that Section 5-4 of the Code of the City of <br />Charlottesville, 1976, as amended, is hereby amended and reordained <br />as follows: <br />Section 5-4. Building permits and fees. <br />Fees for building permits issued pursuant to the Statewide <br />Building Code shall be as follows: <br />(a) A minimum fee of eight dollars shall be charged for each <br />permit issued when the total cost or the total physical value of <br />the work performed is no more than two thousand dollars. <br />(b) When the cost or the total physical value of the work is <br />in excess of two thousand dollars, the fee for all permits shall <br />be based on the following schedule: <br />$2,001 up to $50,000, a fee of $4.00 per $1,000. <br />$50,001 up to $100,000, a fee of $200.00 plus $3.00 for each <br />$1,000 over $50,000. <br />All estimated cost over $100,000, a fee of $350.00 plus $2.00 <br />for each $1,000 over $100,000. <br />(c) All permits shall be issued upon payment of the fee based <br />on the estimated total physical value. Upon completion of the work <br />for which a permit is issued, an accurate statement of the actual <br />cost thereof shall be furnished to the building official by the <br />party to whom the permit was issued. An adjustment of the <br />difference between the fee properly chargeable, based on the actual <br />cost, and the fee paid, based on the estimated total physical <br />value, shall then be made. If the actual cost exceeds the <br />estimated cost, the party to whom the permit was issued shall pay <br />the difference in the fee; if the actual cost is less than the <br />estimated cost, then the city treasurer is hereby authorized, upon <br />request of the building official, to refund to the party who paid <br />the estimated fee such portion thereof as constitutes an <br />overpayment. <br />Approved by Council <br />April 2, 1990 C rk of City Council <br />9 -7-7 <br />
