collections which are in addition to the regularly scheduled
is
collections.
Section 26-41 Additional Regulations
ARTICLE IV. CURBSIDE RECYCLING
Section 26-45. Purpose.
This Council finds that reduction of the solid waste stream
through recycling efforts is one effective means of addressing the
growing problem and related escalating costs of solid waste
disposal. Recycling should also aid in conservation of our nation's
material resources. For these reasons, the Council finds that the
public interest will be better served if the following provisions
are enacted to enable the City's curbside recycling program to
operate as efficiently as is practicable.
Section 26-46. Definitions.
Customers - are those persons who wish to participate in the
. city's curbside recycling program and who either reside or operate
businesses within the city and the properties on which they reside
or operate a business meet the following two criteria: (1) such
properties receive once a week curbside refuse collection service
from the City, and (2) such properties on the average generate
refuse each week which would fill less than twelve (12) thirty-two
gallon containers. Excluded from this definition under this article
are those persons who own or operate "commercial properties" as
defined in Article III of this chapter - meaning properties which
use dumpsters.
•
Recyclable Materials - are for purposes of this curbside
program only the following materials:
1. All glass containers
2. Aluminum beer and soft drink cans
3. Newspapers
4. Plastic soft drink bottles, milk, and water jugs
5. Steel (tin) cans used for fruits, vegetables, soups, pet
foods, and other food items.
Recycling Containers - are reusable 18 gallon plastic
containers approved and provided initially by the City or its agent
for use by residential curbside customers for the collection of
recyclable material.
9
