(e) (l) As used in subsections (a) and (b) of this section with respect to any member who <br />retires for disability on or after age sixty (60), disability -credited service means such member's <br />creditable service. With respect to any member who retires for disability prior to age sixty (60), <br />disability -credited service means the smaller of paragraphs (1) and (2) following: <br />Sec. 19-104. Optional benefits. <br />. (a) Each member shall have the right at any time, not after the later of the effective date <br />of the member's retirement or the date of the written notification to the commission of the <br />retirement of the member, to elect to have his retirement allowance, other than any portion of <br />such allowance that is payable under the provisions of section 19-96w(cl, payable under one (1) <br />of the options set forth in subsections (b) and (c) of this section, in lieu of the retirement <br />allowance otherwise payable to him upon retirement. The amount of any such optional <br />retirement allowance shall be the actuarial equivalent of the amount of such retirement allowance <br />otherwise payable to the member. The member shall make such an election by written notice to <br />the commission. <br />Sec. 19-105. Survivor's allowance. <br />(a) Should a member die in service at any time before retirement and after either <br />becoming eligible for early service retirement under section 19-95(e), or completing at least <br />thirty (3) years of creditable service, the member's surviving spouse if any, shall receive a <br />retirement allowance payable monthly for the life of such spouse. Such allowance shall be in the <br />same amount and shall commence at the same date as the retirement allowance that would have <br />been payable to the member, computed in accordance with section 19-96, subsection (a) 044), <br />whichever is applicable, had the member survived and retired on the first day of the month <br />coinciding with or next following the date o which his death occurred after having elected an <br />0 <br />
