Prepared April 17, 2000 <br />AN ORDINANCE <br />• AMENDING AND REORDAINING SECTION 34-671 <br />OF ARTICLE XVIII -A OF CHAPTER 34 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, AS AMENDED, <br />RELATING TO THE ADDITION OF A PORTION OF PRESTON AVENUE <br />TO THE ENTRANCE CORRIDOR HISTORIC OVERLAY DISTRICT. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that Section <br />34-671 of Article XVIII -A in Chapter 34 of the Charlottesville City Code, 1990, as amended, is <br />hereby amended and reordained as follows: <br />ARTICLE XVIII -A. ENTRANCE CORRIDOR HISTORIC <br />(ECH) OVERLAY DISTRICT <br />DIVISION 1. GENERALLY <br />See. 34-670. Purpose and intent. <br />The purpose of this article is to promote traffic safety and the general welfare of the <br />public through the protection of the community property values, character and vistas of various <br />city entrance corridors and the prevention of unnecessary clutter, congestion and poor definition <br />• of properties and development edges along routes of primary tourist access leading into areas and <br />sites of significant historical value. It is the further purpose of this article to ensure that any <br />development or redevelopment is consistent with the goals of the comprehensive plan. <br />Sec. 34-671. Applicability. <br />The provisions of this article shall apply to the Entrance Corridor Historic (ECH) Overlay <br />Districts, which shall include all land contiguous to the following arterial streets or highways: <br />(1) Route 29 North from the corporate limits to Ivy Road; <br />(2) Hydraulic Road from the corporate limits to the 250 Bypass; <br />(3) Barracks Road from the corporate limits to Meadowbrook Road; <br />(4) Ivy Road from the corporate limits to Emmet Street; <br />(5) Fontaine Avenue/Jefferson Park Avenue from the corporate limits to Emmet Street; <br />(6) Fifth Street, SW from the corporate limits to the beginning of the Ridge Street <br />Architectural Design Control District; <br />(7) Avon Street from the corporate limits to the CSX Railroad tracks; <br />(8) Monticello Avenue/Route 20 from the corporate limits to Avon Street; <br />(9) Long Street from the corporate limits to St. Clair Avenue; <br />(10) East High Street/9th Street from Long Street to East Market Street; and <br />11 Preston Avenue from McIntire Road to Rosser Avenue <br />• As used herein, the term "contiguous" shall mean land which is both (i) within one <br />hundred (100) feet of the streets and highways listed above and (ii) part of a parcel which abuts <br />such streets and highways. <br />Approved by Council <br />May 15, 2000 <br />erk of Council <br />
