AN ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING AND REORDAINING SECTION 28-29 OF CHAPTER 28 <br />• OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE, 1990, AS AMENDED, <br />RELATING TO THE FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that <br />Section 28-29 of Article I of Chapter 28 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1990, <br />as amended, is hereby amended and reordained, as follows: <br />Sec. 28-29. Street parades, processions, and other events. <br />(a) No parade or procession of any kind shall be held or conducted in any city <br />rights-of-way without first obtaining a permit from the city manager. <br />(b) The city manager is authorized to require permits for the use of city <br />rights-of-way for special events and community events (as defined within section <br />28-29(c) of the City Code), and for other activities that may affect the safety or <br />convenience of the general public. The city manager is authorized to promulgate <br />regulations to govern the time, place and manner of such activities, and to establish <br />reasonable fees, charges and rentals therefor. A violation of any of the rules and <br />regulations established hereunder shall constitute a Class 4 misdemeanor. <br />(c) For the purposes of this section the term 'community event' shall refer to <br />"Court Days," "First Night," all "City Market' days, the Dogwood Festival and Parade, all <br />"Fridays After Five" days, acid the 3ayeees Fourth of July celebration eamival, and other <br />events as declared by the city council from time to time. <br />Approved by City Council <br />Date: March 5, 2001 <br />Cl of City Council <br />0 <br />
