• E • Prepared August 20, 2002 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 32, SECTIONS 32-2 AND 32-3, OF THE CHARLOTTESVILLE CITY CODE, 1990, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO TAXICAB REGISTRATION. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia that Sections 32-2 and 32-3 of Article I of Chapter 32 of the Code of the City of Charlottesville, 1990, as amended, are hereby amended and reordained, as follows: CHAPTER 32. VEHICLES FOR HIRE ARTICLE I. IN GENERAL Sec. 32-2. Registration of vehicles for hire. (a) All passenger motor vehicles for hire, including all taxicabs, operating within the city or which have a terminal within the city shall be registered by the owner with the chief of police, as follows: (1) On or before May January I st of each calendar year, or no later than March 1 of the if a vehicle was registered with the police during the Dreceding calendar year, the vehicle's owner shall apply to the chief of police for registration of the vehicle. The applicant shall state whether the vehicle will be driven solely by the applicant, will be leased to or otherwise utilized by another operator, or will be driven by employees of the applicant. The applicant shall present a copy of a current business license issued by the commissioner of revenue authorizing the applicant to do business in the city. Sec. 32-3. Registration of drivers. (a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle for hire, including any taxicab, in the city until he has been registered by the chief of police, as follows: (1) On or before May January 1 st of each calendar year, or no later than March 1 calendar year if the driver was registered with the police during the preceding of the calendar year, a person who drives, or intends to drive a passenger motor vehicle for hire, including a taxicab, within the city shall apply to the chief of police for a registration. ...
