AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAINING <br />• SECTION 34-1107 OF ARTICLE IX OF CHAPTER 34 (ZONING) <br />OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990, <br />AS AMENDED, RELATING TO PORTABLE STORAGE CONTAINERS. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, that Section 34- <br />1107 of Article IX (Generally Applicable Regulations) of Chapter 34 (Zoning) of the Charlottesville <br />City Code, 1990, as amended, is hereby amended and reordained, as follows: <br />Sec. 34-1107. Portable storage containers. <br />Notwithstanding any contrary provision of this ordinance, portable storage containers located outside <br />of a fully -enclosed building or structure shall be allowed only in residential, commercial or mixed use <br />districts subject to the following restrictions: <br />(1) <br />In residential districts and mixed-use districts, no more than a maximum of two (2) portable <br />storage containers may be allowed on a lot for a period no longer than fifteen (15) days in any <br />consecutive twelve-month period. A maximum of one (1) portable storage container shall <br />may be allowed on a lot, and fora period no longer than a -total e€ sixty (60) days in any <br />consecutive twelve-month period. In any case where there is a change in ownership of the <br />lot, the date upon which title to the lot is conveyed shall begin a new 12 -month period. The <br />portable storage container must be placed a minimum of five 5 ten (1-0) feet from the <br />• <br />property line, or on the driveway of the lot. One portable storage container may be placed in a <br />legal parking place on the street with the purchase of a permit from Neighborhood <br />Development Services when space is not available on site No portable storage container <br />located in a residential or mixed-use district shall have dimensions greater than twenty (20) in <br />length, eight (8) feet in width or eight (8) feet in height. <br />(2) <br />adrninistraten Any resident with one portable storage container on their lot for less than <br />fifteen (15) calendar days shall not be required to obtain a permit if Neighborhood <br />Development Services has advance notice of placement A permit issued by the zoning <br />administrator is required for any portable storage container located on a lot for more than <br />fifteen (15) calendar days. The fee for such permit shall be in the amount set forth in the most <br />recent zoning fee schedule approved by city council. The permit shall be displayed on the <br />exterior of the portable storage unit at all times. <br />(3) <br />Other than the required city permit, no sign shall be attached to a portable storage container <br />except as authorized by the sign regulations set forth within section 3410-20ty. 34-1026 <br />of the City Code (Signs). <br />(4) <br />All portable storage containers shall be maintained in a condition free from rust, peeling paint <br />and other visible forms of deterioration. <br />Approved by Council <br />December 18, 2006 <br />ki� <br />CIM of City Council <br />
