• RESOLUTION FOR PARTICIPATION IN PAVEMENT MARKING DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM (THERMOPLASTIC MARKINGS) WHEREAS, it has come to the City's attention that Federal funds are available, through the State, for pavement marking demonstration programs, and that such funds are available without any local contribution and without charge to our Urban system allocation; and WHEREAS, the City intends, during 1978, to resurface a substantial portion of its arterial and collector street mileage, including Emmet Street and Cherry Avenue among others; and WHEREAS, the scope of this paving work presents an opportunity to demonstrate the possible benefits of extruded thermoplastic pavement marking to the City of Charlottesville, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Charlottesville, that the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation is hereby requested to initiate and administer a contract to install extruded thermoplastic pavement markings on Route 29 (entire length), Cleveland Avenue -Cherry Avenue -Elliott Avenue (entire length), Preston Avenue from 10th Street to Rugby Road, 250 Bypass from Route 29 to beginning of new paving (both directions) and from Dairy Road to Southern Railroad • (eastbound lanes), Meadowbrook Heights Road (entire length), Arlington Boulevard (entire length), Rose Hill Drive from Amherst Street to Preston Avenue, Market Street from 9th to City limits, and such other streets that may be brought to the attention of the Department as suitable for inclusion in such a contract; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to work with the Department as to the exact location and type of markings to be installed and to provide such other assistance as may be necessary; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council shall send a copy of this Resolution to the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation.
