• RESOLUTION FOR PARTICIPATION <br />IN PAVEMENT MARKING <br />DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM <br />(THERMOPLASTIC MARKINGS) <br />WHEREAS, it has come to the City's attention that Federal funds <br />are available, through the State, for pavement marking demonstration programs, <br />and that such funds are available without any local contribution and without <br />charge to our Urban system allocation; and <br />WHEREAS, the City intends, during 1978, to resurface a substantial <br />portion of its arterial and collector street mileage, including Emmet Street <br />and Cherry Avenue among others; and <br />WHEREAS, the scope of this paving work presents an opportunity <br />to demonstrate the possible benefits of extruded thermoplastic pavement <br />marking to the City of Charlottesville, <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, that the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation <br />is hereby requested to initiate and administer a contract to install <br />extruded thermoplastic pavement markings on Route 29 (entire length), <br />Cleveland Avenue -Cherry Avenue -Elliott Avenue (entire length), Preston <br />Avenue from 10th Street to Rugby Road, 250 Bypass from Route 29 to beginning <br />of new paving (both directions) and from Dairy Road to Southern Railroad <br />• (eastbound lanes), Meadowbrook Heights Road (entire length), Arlington <br />Boulevard (entire length), Rose Hill Drive from Amherst Street to Preston <br />Avenue, Market Street from 9th to City limits, and such other streets that <br />may be brought to the attention of the Department as suitable for inclusion <br />in such a contract; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager or his designee is <br />hereby authorized to work with the Department as to the exact location and <br />type of markings to be installed and to provide such other assistance as may <br />be necessary; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council shall send a <br />copy of this Resolution to the Virginia Department of Highways and <br />Transportation. <br />Copy Teste: <br />r 1 <br />U <br />Clerk <br />Adopted by the Council <br />January 18, 1978 <br />
