RESOLUTION <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY ATTORNEY AND THE ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY <br />TO SELL REAL PROPERTY FOR THE COLLECTION OF DELINQUENT TAXES <br />WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Council to protect property <br />owners who pay their real estate taxes when due from indirect burdens <br />which might be placed upon them by the non-payment of taxes by other <br />property owners; and <br />WHEREAS, state and local law provide a means for the City to <br />sell real property for the collection of delinquent taxes; now, <br />therefore, be it <br />that: <br />• <br />RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, Virginia, <br />1. The City Attorney and the Assistant City Attorney <br />are each hereby authorized to institute and conduct <br />legal proceedings in•,the name of the City to sell <br />real property to collect delinquent real estate taxes. <br />2. Either the City Attorney or the Assistant City <br />Attorney shall act'at the request`of the City Treasurer <br />when notifie& that taxes on any real property in the <br />'City are delinquent for.at least three tax years. <br />3. No bond shall be required of the City Attorney or <br />the Assistant City Attorney for the,purpose of securing <br />a lawful accounting of all funds which either may <br />collect in the course of selling'such property since <br />both the City Attorney and the Assistant City Attorney <br />are already adequately bonded under a blanket <br />employee bond. <br />Copy teste: <br />Clerk of Counci <br />0 <br />Adopted by Council <br />May 18, 1981 <br />
