• RESOLUTION <br />Gas Division Drug Testing Policy <br />WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has <br />adopted regulations requiring natural gas operators with 50 or <br />fewer employees to begin drug testing of certain employee positions <br />by August 21, 1990; and <br />WHEREAS, the DOT requirements differ from the City's Substance <br />Abuse Policy in several areas, including a requirement for random <br />testing for illegal drugs on a regular basis, and will necessitate <br />significant revisions to the Substance Abuse Policy adopted by <br />Council in 1987 in order to comply with such federal regulations; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Gas Division has submitted an interim drug <br />testing policy, a copy of which is attached to this resolution, <br />that will satisfy the specific requirements of the DOT regulations <br />until the City's Substance Abuse Policy can be revised to <br />incorporate the DOT regulations for affected Gas Division <br />employees; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that the attached Anti -Drug Program for Gas Division <br />• employees is hereby approved for implementation effective <br />immediately, and that the City Attorney and City Manager are <br />directed to revise the City's Substance Abuse Policy to make the <br />two policies consistent with each other. The procedures for <br />approving changes in the Substance Abuse Policy as set forth in <br />Paragraph 6.0 of Section 100-1 of the City's Standard Operating <br />Procedure shall be followed. <br />Approved by Council <br />August 20, 1990 <br />L <br />1 rk of City Council <br />-6-44 <br />• <br />
