We look to government to
be an innovator and to be willing co reinvent
itself when :hat is appropriate. We see a
number of possibilities between the City, the
County, and the University to work together
on employment planning, education•
transportation, public safety, services and
community involvement We have created
Strategic QulStioas
innovative arrangements in the past (e.g.,
the revenue sharing agreement, PACC, joint
authorities for water, sewer, library. airport,
etc.). We seek ways in the future to continue
innovating about how we are governed and
provide services. Possibilities include joint
service districts, charter changes, new
revenue sources, consolidation of
govemments, reversion to town status and
others.
In Judging how well we ate doing, we .viii ask ourselves, are we ...
• meeting citizen needs?
• managing our resources eftec:ively?
• Providing quality services?
• seeking innovative solutions :o our concerns?
• monitoring results and adjusting activities accordingly?
se?kin^y corSrcCus =17,,rpnity ;rvoiveme. !'
wr'S"dermg w3v.:a : aeCer3:e 3rc =mmm
ucare e.'fcc:vely ze!w?an the City,
C arc t;'nr ers,:v, as le!l as with the larger region?
Approved by Council
June 20, 1994
Se
lected comments
• It really does begin with each of as.
• Charlottesville and Albemarle can be a
model for other ,communities.
• Good public services attract people.
• The technology of the future will make
the present form of government obsolete.
• The City and County art drifting further
apart - these visioning Forums are heir last
chance to cooperate.
