WHEREAS, we are informed by the citizens who filed the petition for reversion that it is <br />their intention to respect the wishes of the Council pertaining to the prosecution of the Reversion <br />• litigation, and it is the Council's desire to affirm the right of citizens who undertake voter <br />initiatives to participate in the prosecution and termination of such proceedings; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that: <br />(A) The City Council expresses the view that reversion is not presently in the best <br />interests of the City or the region, and that cooperation and negotiation are more <br />likely to bring the positive outcomes that the community seeks; <br />(B) The City Council expresses its thanks to all groups and individuals who have been <br />involved in the exploration of reversion and its alternatives, including, but not <br />limited to: <br />(1) The citizens who exercised their legitimate rights under the law to bring a <br />petition; <br />(2) The League of Women Voters, which sponsored forums and conducted <br />outreach; <br />(3) The 5Cs Committee, which was instrumental in resolving an impasse in <br />the Fire Services Contract discussions; and <br />(4) The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, which worked with Council <br />• in an effort to reach agreements on a number of issues, and continues to <br />evidence interest in further cooperation with the City; and <br />• <br />(C) The City Council requests that discussions with Albemarle County on the above <br />joint efforts begin as soon as possible. <br />Approved by Council <br />December 20, 1999 <br />eJrk of City Council <br />3- <br />
