• RESOLUTION <br />Supporting and Authorizing an Application for a TEA -21 Grant — <br />Downtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Gateway- 5`" Street NE <br />WHEREAS, under the Transportation Enhancement Act (TEA -21) certain funds are <br />made available for enhancement projects; <br />WHEREAS, the project is in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan of the City of <br />Charlottesville, <br />WHEREAS, the project is deemed meritorious and of benefit to the community and <br />the State; <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with Commonwealth Transportation Board construction <br />allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by resolution be received from the local <br />government in order that the Virginia Department of Transportation program an enhancement <br />project in the City of Charlottesville, Virginia; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, requests the Commonwealth Transportation Board to establish a project <br />for a Downtown Pedestrian and Bicycle Gateway on 5° Street NE, between Court Square and <br />the Downtown Mall; <br />• BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Charlottesville has sufficient <br />capital improvement funds and agree to jointly pay the "local 20% match" toward the total cost <br />of planning, design, and implementation of this project, in accordance with guidelines for TEA - <br />21 funding. It is estimated that the local match by the City will be $194,058; <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, if the City subsequently elects to cancel this <br />project, the City of Charlottesville agrees to reimburse the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the Department through the date the <br />Department is notified of such cancellation. <br />Adopted this I&tl" day of 20 01 . <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA <br />
