RESOLUTION <br />• CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE ADOPTION <br />OF THE <br />REGIONAL NATURAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN <br />WHEREAS, hazard mitigation is sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate the risk to <br />human life and property from natural hazards and their effects, and <br />WHEREAS, it is essential to protect life and property by reducing the potential for future <br />damages and economic losses resulting from natural disasters, and <br />WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation act of 2000 provides new and revitalized approaches <br />to mitigation planning, and <br />WHEREAS, compliance with the new mitigation plan requirements will position the City <br />of Charlottesville and the region to receive pre- and post -disaster mitigation funding, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville has been involved in the preparation of the <br />Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, including review, and public hearings and <br />approval by both the Charlottesville Planning Commission and City Council, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville approved the Hazard Mitigation Plan for <br />• submission to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and the <br />Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and <br />WHEREAS, VDEM and the FEMA have.deemed the submitted plan satisfactory with no <br />changes in the mitigation activities for the -City of Charlottesville, <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Charlottesville City Council does hereby <br />adopt the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />Approved by Council <br />June 5, 2006 <br />- / k&'V_4_ L <br />C e k of City Council <br />F_-I <br />LJ <br />
