MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT <br />• THIS MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT, hereinafter referred to as the "Agreement," made <br />this day of 2007, by and between City of Charlottesville, a municipal <br />corporation of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hereinafter referred to as "Charlottesville", and <br />Augusta County, a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hereinafter referred to <br />as "Augusta", <br />WHEREAS, it is deemed to be mutually beneficial to Charlottesville and Augusta to <br />enter into an agreement concerning mutual aid with regard to fire and rescue services; <br />WHEREAS, the parties desire that the terms and conditions of this Agreement be <br />established pursuant to §§ 27-2, 27-4, 27-23.6, 44-146.19 and 44-146.20 of the Code of Virginia; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the locality which makes a request for services under this Agreement is <br />• sometimes referred to in this Agreement as the "requesting locality," and the locality which <br />receives such a request for services under this Agreement is sometimes referred to as the <br />"responding locality;" <br />NOW THEREFORE WITNESSETH, that for and in consideration of the mutual benefits <br />to be derived by Charlottesville and Augusta from this Agreement, Charlottesville and Augusta <br />hereby covenant and agree each with the other as follows: <br />Charlottesville and Augusta will endeavor to provide fire services, rescue services, <br />hazardous materials response services, and other related governmental services to the other <br />locality within the capabilities available at the time the request for services is made. Such <br />services may be provided by locality -paid employees or by volunteers affiliated with volunteer <br />fire -fighting or emergency medical services companies or associations which are part of the <br />• locality's official safety program. <br />
