Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that each urbanized area <br />over 50,000 population update its long range plan every five years; and <br />WHEREAS, the Charlottesville -Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) last <br />adopted its long range plan, UnJAM 2025 in May 2004; and <br />WHEREAS, the urban and rural area transportation plans are again combined in UnJAM 2035 to <br />stress the effects transportation networks have on the entire region and to develop effective <br />regional solutions; and <br />WHEREAS, the major goal of the UnJAM 2035 Plan is to create and advance a balanced, <br />regional multi -modal transportation network; and <br />WHEREAS, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) and the <br />Charlottesville -Albemarle MPO have led the efforts to complete UnJAM 2035 with an extensive <br />• public outreach campaign conducted to solicit input from the community; and <br />WHEREAS, the UnJAM 2035 addresses future planned transportation projects in the City of <br />Charlottesville and the urbanized portion of Albemarle County over the next 20 years; and <br />WHEREAS, the MPO Policy Board seeks to approve the urban portion of the plan in May 2009; <br />and <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Charlottesville City Council endorses the UnJAM <br />2035 Plan and supports MPO adoption. <br />Approved by Council <br />May 18, 2009 <br />k of City Council <br />is <br />
