On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />resolution recognizing Ms. Beverly Catlin for rehabilitation of <br />the "House at Pireus" was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, by creating the Historic Landmarks <br />Commission and the Boards of Architectural Review, has <br />recognized the value of encouraging appropriate restoration <br />and preservation of property in the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council wishes to encourage further such <br />preservation efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ the Council has decided that such efforts by <br />individuals should be publicly recognized; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council, with the advice of the Historic <br />Landmarks Commission, the Boards of Architectural Review <br />concurring, will recognize outstanding examples of <br />rehabilitation; <br /> <br /> NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of <br />the City of Charlottesville recognizes the "House at Pireus," <br />302 Riverside Avenue, and commends its rehabilitation by <br />Beverly Catlin. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />resolution recognizing the Historic Renovation Corporation <br />for rehabilitation of seventeen fraternity and sorority houses <br />was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the CitY Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, by creating the Historic Landmarks <br />Commission and the Boards of Architectural Review, has <br />recognized the value of encouraging appropriate restoration <br />and preservation of property in the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the ~Council wishes to encourage further such <br />preservation efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council has decided that such efforts by <br />individuals should be publicly recognized; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council, with the advice of the Historic <br />Landmarks Commission, the Boards of Architectural Review <br />concurring, will recognize outstanding examples of <br />rehabilitation and rehabilitation efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Historic Renovation Corporation has done an <br />exemplary job of rehabilitating seventeen architecturally <br />noteworthy early twentieth-century fraternity and sorority <br />houses; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of <br /> the citY of Charlottesville recognizes the Historic <br /> Renovation Corporation for their innovative work. <br /> <br />REQUEST: SHELTER FoR HELP IN EMERGENCY <br /> <br />Mr. Hendrix stated that the Shelter for Help in Emergency <br />(SHE) has requested an appropriation from the City in the amount <br />of $9,400 to finance the installation of a new water main and <br />storm sewer, requirements of the site plan, at their new group <br />home. <br /> <br /> Ms. Jeanne Hammer, vice-chair of the SHE Board and Chairman <br />of SHE's Renovation Committee, stated that the improvements <br />-would be of some benefit to the neighborhood and noted~that SHE <br />had agreed to provide a larger than necessary parking lot at the <br />site. <br /> <br />· Responding to a question from Mr. Barnes, Ms. Hammer stated <br /> <br /> <br />
