Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever, Ms. Waters. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Nottingham of the Elks Lodge thanked the Mayor <br />for proclaiming National Patriotism Week. <br /> <br /> Officer Bob Romanac invited Council to attend SADD Day <br />at Charlottesville High School on March 17th. <br /> <br /> Mr. Chic Thompson, President of the Charlottesville- <br />Albemarle Clean Community Commission, presented the Council <br />with the Governor's Award for Excellence for a Clean <br />Community. <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT: <br /> <br />FUTURE HIGHWAY PROJECTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation holds public hearing in April about highway <br />projects and staff has recommended that certain new areas of <br />concern be added to the list for consideration by the <br />Planning Commission prior to forwarding the list to VDOT. <br /> <br /> Ms. Judith Mueller, Director of Public Works, listed the <br />following new areas identifiedi 1) W. Main St. Corridor <br />(preliminary design work); 2) E. High St. from Long St. to <br />Meade Ave.; 3) Barracks Rd.. from Emmet Street~ to Hessian Rd.; <br />4) Jefferson Park Avenue/Old Lynchburg Rd. to Harris; <br />5) Fontaine Ave. from Maury Ave. to the City limits; and <br />6) Emmet St. from Ivy Rd. to Massie Rd. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe questioned which existing highway projects are <br />closest to becoming reality. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mueller stated that preliminary design work has been <br />done on Free Bridge, Meadowcreek Parkway is on hold; the <br />railroad is being worked with regarding the 9th/10th Street <br />realignment; and a height waiver is being sought from the <br />railroad for the Ridge Street bridge replacement. <br /> <br /> <br />
