303 <br /> <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTION 16-43.2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />1976, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO USE OF VOLUNTEERS IN ENFORCING <br />LOCAL HANDICAPPED PARKING REQUIREMENTS" was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: CEMETERY VAULTS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that presently only concrete or steel <br />vaults are allowed and the amendment would allow a new <br />material, polypropylene, which is lighter and less subject to <br />breaking to be used. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTION 6-9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, <br />AS AMENDED, RELATING TO CEMETERY VAULTS" was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: CLOSING 9TH STREET CONNECTOR ROAD <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, <br />stated that the Planning Commission recommended closing the <br />9th Street connector road for the following reasons: The <br />Master Plan Study for the CSX Property is currently being <br />prepared and proposes uses in this right-of-way as part of <br />the overall development plan; and the Downtown Traffic Study <br />recently completed for the City contains a recommendation, <br />recently endorsed by the Planning Commission, which calls for <br />the extension of a two-way Water Street east under the <br />Belmont Bridge through the CSX Property which will render the <br />connector road obsolete. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Towe, Mr. Huja stated <br />that the street would be closed as soon as possible because <br />the property is needed for replacement parking. <br /> <br /> On motion by Rev. Edwards, seconded by Mr. Vandever, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND <br />DISCONTINUING NINTH STREET BETWEEN EAST MARKET AND WATER <br />STREETS" was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Greg Honn of 606 Gillespie Avenue, Apt. 1, requested <br />that Council remove the restriction on video games on the <br />downtown mall. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja stated that the matter of video games has been <br />referred to the Planning Commission and will be considered by <br />them in June. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lee Schultz stated that he felt it would be <br />advantageous to have handicapped parking spaces consistently <br />marked. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja stated that all new site plans require <br />standardized markings for handicapped parking spaces, but <br />the standards cannot be enforced on previously existing <br />spaces. <br /> <br /> The~meeting was adjourned. __ <br /> <br />Pre,dent t ~rk ~A~4A~ ~ <br /> <br /> <br />
