]7

PUBLIC

There were no matters by the public.

OTHER BUSINESS

Mr. Hendrix stated that it had come to the City's
attention that certain rezoning of agricultural districts
was being done by the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors
and there was some concern that the creation of these
districts might have implications for future highway
projects. Mr. Hendrix stated that it had been recommended
that the Mayor write a letter to the Board requesting that
they withhold rezoning such districts until the current
study being conducted by the Virginia Department of
Transportation with regard to Route 29 north and any
potential bypass is completed.

Mr. Buck stated that he felt the request was consistent
with the County's past request of the City that no changes
be made with regard to plans for Route 29 north until the
study is completed.

It was the consensus of Council to request that the
Mayor write a letter to the Albemarle County Board of
Supervisors requesting that no additional agricultural
districts be created until completion of the highway study
being conducted by the Department of Transportation.

Mr. Hendrix stated that there was a need for additional
clerical help in the City Manager's office as the
professional staff had grown to nine, but the secretarial
staff had remained the same. Mr. Hendrix stated that an
agreement had been made with the Industrial Development
Authority to provide funds for a part-time permanent
clerical position. Mr. Hendrix noted that any additional
staff must be approved by Council.

On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Towe,
Council unanimously approved the creation of a part-time
permanent clerical position in the City Manager's office to
be funded by the Industrial Development Authority.

Mr. Buck requested that the Council take a stand on the
lottery issue which will be voted on in the November 3rd
election.

On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mrs. Gleason,
Council unanimously voted to oppose the creation of a
lottery in Virginia.

On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Towe,
Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to
discuss personnel and legal matters as exempted by Section
2.1-344(a)(1) and (6) of the Virginia Freedom of Information
Act.
eeting was adjourned.

President ~rk~-~ ~
