of the Commission as much of the work is being done in <br />subcommittees of the Commission. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />resolution amending the membership fo the Social <br />Development Commission was unanimously approved by <br />Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has previously adopted a <br />resolution establishing a procedure for the selection of <br />persons to be appointed to the Social Development <br />Commission and has amended that resolution from time to <br />time~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council now desires further to amend <br />that policy; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Charlottesville that the following statement, as <br />amended, is hereby adopted as the policy of the Council <br />with regard to the appointment of members of the Social <br />Development Commission: <br /> <br /> The Council shall strive to appoint members to the <br /> Commission who have a strong interest in and knowledge of <br /> social concerns. The members shall be available to attend <br /> regular meetings as well as to work on special projects. <br /> The Council shall appoint eleven members and strive to <br /> balance the Commission in terms of geography, race, <br /> income, age and sex. <br /> <br /> Of the eleven members, four shall be appointed from <br /> the following special categories: <br /> (a) One member of the City School Board or person <br /> designated by the Board. <br /> (b) One member of the University of Virginia faculty <br /> or administration. <br /> (c) One member of the City Planning Commission. <br /> (d) One minority resident of the City. <br /> <br /> The remaining seven persons appointed to the <br /> Commission shall be members of or have interest in one or <br /> more of the following groups: <br /> <br />(a) <br />(b) <br />(c) <br />(d) <br />(e) <br />(f) <br />(g) <br /> <br />Low income residents. <br />City churches. <br />Youth. <br />Persons 60 years of age or older. <br />Voluntary service organizations. <br />Social service agencies. <br />Business or business organizations. <br /> <br /> (h) Persons experienced in dealing with concerns of <br />health, employment, safety and justice, culture and <br />communications, or handicapped persons. <br /> (i) College or university student. <br /> <br /> It shall be the policy of the Council to permit <br />existing members of the Commission to continue to serve <br />until the end of their terms and to replace such present <br />members with persons from the foregoing categories as <br />vacancies arise. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO SIGN AGREEMENT WITH TRAILWAY <br />LINES, INC., AND CGV, INC. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the agreement would provide <br />for the movement of Trailways buses to the new lot at 6th <br />Street and Levy Avenue and would free up property for the <br />Vinegar Hill South development. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign an agreement with <br />Trailway Lines, Inc., and CVG, Inc. was unanimously <br /> <br /> <br />
