price was $365,000.

Mr. Buck questioned what the sidewalk and signal
improvements would cost.

Ms. Mueller stated that the improvements would cost
approximately $40,000 and were included in the capital
budget appropriation for the project.

Responding to a question from Mr. Buck concerning the
possibility of using the property mentioned on 5th Street,
Ms.Mueller stated that there had been no site available on
5th Street. Ms. Mueller noted that the rear of the
property on Avon Street Extended which could not be
developed would form a natural barrier and would be a
deterrant to vandalism.

Mrs. Gleason stated that a long search had been done
to find an appropriate site for the school buses and she
felt the Avon Street Extended site was the most
appropriate. Mrs. Gleason stated that she felt it was also
important that the neighborhood had not felt as though it
would be negatively impacted.

Mr. Buck stated that he felt Mr. Vanderlinde had
legitimate concerns about the plan, but noted that the
land is zoned industrial and the use of the site for
school buses would probably have less impact on the
neighborhood than other uses allowed by right. Mr. Buck
also stated that he felt the City would be responsive to the
neighborhood,s concerns. Mr. Buck commended Ms. Mueller
for working sensitively with the neighborhood and
commended the neighborhood for balancing the needs of the
community in their decision to support the plan.

Ms. Mueller stated that the sidewalk and signal
construction would begin as soon as possible, with the
hope that the school buses could be moved to the location
in late spring.

Responding to Mr. Vanderlinde's concerns regarding
the loss of on-street parking, Mr. Buck stated that the
parking would be removed as a result of the signal
improvements at Avon Street and Elliott Avenue and were
needed regardless of the location of the school buses on
the property.

On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall,
Council unanimously authorized staff to exercise the
option on the Avon Street Extended property to be used to
house school buses and material and equipment storage.

PUBLIC HEARING: NAME FOR NEW CITY/COUNTY PARK

Mrs. Gleason stated that she had been a member of the
committee considering names for the park and it was the
committee's unanimous recommendation that the Park be named
Riverside Park as that had been the historic name for the
property. Mrs. Gleason stated that the committee understood
that there might be some confusion with another park in the
City named Riverview and that should that name not be
changed, the committee recommended that the park be named
Rivanna River Park as a second choice.

Mr. Gene German, Director of Parks and Recreation,
stated that the donors of Riverview Park have told him
that they would be willing to change the name.

As there was no one to speak, the public hearing was
closed.

Mr. Barnes questioned whether consideration had been
