¸32 <br /> <br />given to naming the park for a person or persons. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason stated that various names had been <br />considered. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes stated that he had received a request to <br />name the park after the former City Manager, Jim Bowen. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary O'Connell stated that a request had been made <br />to name the park after Dewey Shifflett, and the committee <br />recommended that one of the ballfields be named after Mr. <br />Shifflett. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason stated that the committee felt that the <br />river should be mentioned in the name as that was one of <br />the main assets of the park. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that he had received four letters in <br />support of naming the park for Mr. Bowen and support for <br />naming a ballfield after Mr. Shifflett. Mr. Towe noted <br />that the group supporting naming a ballfield for Mr. <br />Shifflett was raising funds for facilities at the park in <br />his honor° <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Towe, Council <br />unanimously voted to recommend to the Albemarle County <br />Board of Supervisors that the new City/County Park be <br />named Riverside Park, with Rivanna River Park being the <br />second choice. <br /> <br /> It was requested that a letter be sent to the Board <br />of Supervisors concerning the park name. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, Mr. Gordon Larew was <br />unanimouslY reappointed to a five-year term on the <br />Building Code Board of Appeals. This term will expire on <br />October 1, 1990. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Ms. Jane Parker was <br />reappointed and Ms. Lavetta Barlow was appointed to three- <br />year terms on the Community Attention Advisory Board. <br />These terms will expire on August 18, 1989. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, Ms. Ada Monroe was <br />unanimously appointed to fill an unexpired term on the <br />Jefferson Area Board for Aging. This term will expire on <br />April 1, 1987. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, Ms. Sarah McPherson was <br />unanimously appointed to a two-year term on the Jefferson <br />Area Board for Aging Advisory Council on Aging. This term <br />will expire on July 19, 1988. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Mr. Peter McIntosh was <br />unanimously reappointed to serve a four-year term on the <br />Jefferson-Madison Regional Library Board. This term will <br />expire on August 31, 1990. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, Mr. Roger Sherman was <br />unanimously reappointed and Ms. Alice Hedley was appointed <br />to fill an unexpired term on the McGuffey Arts Center <br />Board. Mr. Sherman's term will expire on August 31, 1989 <br />and Ms. Hedley's term on August 31, 1987. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Mr. Alvin Edwards was <br />unanimously appointed to a two-year term on the Monticello <br />Area Community Action Agency Board. This term will expire <br />on July 1, 1988. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, Mr. Thomas E. Wilson was <br />unanimously appointed to a three-year term on the <br /> <br /> <br />
