102 <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBERS - January 5, 1987 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Dr. <br />Hall, Mr. Towe. Absent: Mrs. Gleason. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />minutes of December 9th were unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />minutes of the two meetings on December 10th were <br />unanimously approved as presented. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />minutes of the December 15th meeting were unanimously <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING: REGARDING TAX EXEMPT STATUS FOR SENIOR CENTER <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Senior Center had <br />requested that the Council adopt a resolution endorsing <br />State legislation granting tax exemption to the Senior <br />Center and a public hearing was required as part of the <br />process. <br /> <br /> Mr. A1 Johnson, Chairman of the Senior Center Board, <br />stated that the Senior Center was requesting tax exempt <br />status at this time as it is anticipating acquiring <br />property in the near future. <br /> <br /> As there were no other speakers, the public hearing <br />was closed. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: ENDORSING LEGISLATION TO GRANT TAX EXEMPTION TO <br />SENIOR CENTER <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that in the past Council has been <br />reluctant to endorse tax exemptions. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe asked what other agencies had been granted <br />tax exempt status. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that one alternative to endorsing tax <br />exempt status would be to give the agency a contribution <br />from the City. <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall stated that he would support deferring the <br />request until further information could be received. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that he woUld be in favor of granting <br />the Senior CenterJs request~ but would support deferral in <br />order to receive more information. <br /> <br /> The resolution was deferred until the next meeting. <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Mr. Rob Freer was <br />unanimously appointed to fill an unexpired term as the <br />Board of Architectural Review representative on the <br />Historic Landmarks Commission. This term will expire on <br />January 1, 1990. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, Mr. Britt Grimm was <br />unanimously reappointed to serve a three-year term on the <br />Thomas Jefferson Emergency Medical Services Council Board <br /> <br /> <br />
