Mr. <br />Lippincott stated that Albemarle County had agreed to <br />provide maintenance funds contingent upon City funding. <br /> <br />  ting was adjourned~~r~_ <br />Prs~ ~ ~.~4~j <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Thursday, <br />March 19, 1987 AT 7:00 p.m. IN THE Basement Conference Room. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Budget work session (agency hearings) <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br /> BASEMENT CONFERENCE ROOM - March 19, 1987 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br /> Dr. Richard Prindle of the Thomas Jefferson Health <br />Department, stated that an additional $10,092 above the <br />amount recommended by the City Manager was needed in order <br />to maintain the present level of services. <br /> <br /> There was a general discussion of various components <br />and services of the Health Department. <br /> <br /> Mr. Leroy Hamlett, representing United Way Child Care <br />stated that the level of funding recommended was <br />satisfactory. Mr. Hamlett stated that only City children <br />are given scholarships with the City funds when United Way <br />funds have been depleted. <br /> <br /> Rev. William Smith, Chairman of the Jefferson Area <br />Board for Aging, and Gordon Walker, Director of JABA, as <br />well as other board members and staff, spoke in support of <br />the Thomas Jefferson Adult Day Care Center, increase for the <br />Meals on Wheels Program, and increased administrative and <br />transportation costs. It was noted that the funding request <br />for the Meals on Wheels program had been reduced. <br /> <br /> Ms. Joy Matthews, Director of the Central Virginia <br />Child Development Association, stated that the additional <br />funds requested would allow the director to work half-time <br />and the child care coordinator to increase from 1/2 to 3/4 <br />time. Ms. Matthews stated that Albemarle County had been <br />approached but they had not approved funding. Ms. Matthews <br />stated that a fee of $30 was charged to non-City residents <br />for the day care directory. <br /> <br /> Mso Jane Parker of Madison House, stated that she would <br />welcome the opportunity to work with the Social Development <br />Commission to articulate the needs of the community in the <br />upcoming year. Ms. Parker stated that Madison had been <br />identifying children at risk in the elementary schools and <br />hopes to continue the intervention into the middle schools <br />in the future. <br /> <br /> <br />
