192 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, <br />Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br />discuss potential litigation as exempted by Section 2.1-344 <br />(a)(6) of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. <br /> <br />meeting <br /> <br />was <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - May 4, 1987 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />minutes of April 20th were unanimously approved as <br />presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Franz Stielfried and Ms. Patty Godsey of the <br />Independence Resource Center, presented Council with an <br />award and conveyed their appreciation for Council's actions <br />to extend accessible transportation for the handicapped in <br />Charlottesville. <br /> <br /> Mr. Michael Bednar, Chairman of the Planning Commission <br />and Urban Design Task Force, presented Council with the <br />Urban Design Forum Summary Report. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jack Faw, owner of All-American Car Wash on the 250 <br />Bypass, requested that the City improve the condition of the <br />eastern section of the 250 Bypass, especially the banks <br />adjacent to Burnley-Moran School. <br /> <br /> Mr. Glen Jones requested that Council adopt a <br />resolution opposing the decision by Jefferson Cable to drop <br />WWBT, Channel 12, and to substitute the Home Shopping <br />Network, a change which was effective on May 1, 1987. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason stated that she has heard from many <br />citizens who oppose the change made by Jefferson Cable. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe requested information concerning the contract <br />between the City and Jefferson Cable. <br /> <br /> Mr. Craig Brown, Assistant City Attorney, stated that <br />the City does not have legal authority concerning <br />programming. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that he would be in favor of Council <br />expressing its sentiments against the change made by <br />Jefferson Cable and stated that he' not only opposed deleting <br />WWBT, but strongly objected to the Home Shopping Network <br />being shown on a prime channel 24 hours a day. <br /> <br /> on motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Dr. Hall, Council <br />unanimously voted to request that Jefferson Cable restore <br />the first tier of service as it had existed on April 30, <br />1987. <br /> <br />STAFF REPORT: ~CLARK SCHOOL RENOVATIONS <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Vice-Chairman of the School Board, <br />invited Council to attend the School Board meeting scheduled <br />for May 7th at Charlottesville High School which would be a <br />review of current activities and renovations at the high <br />school. <br /> <br /> <br />
