193 <br /> <br /> Mr. Pezzoli stated that preliminary plans for the <br />renovation of Clark Elementary School had been reviewed by <br />the State Department of Education with minor changes, and <br />that plans had been approved by the Renovation Committee, <br />the School Board and sent to the State Department for final <br />review~ pending approval by Council. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gl.eason stated that the estimate had been <br />reduced by $200,000. <br /> <br /> Responding to a request from Mr. Towe that the changes to <br />the portico be described and that the parking be discussed, <br />Mr. Bob Moje, architect for the project, stated that the <br />portico at the front of the building would be restored to its <br />original condition and the entrance on Belmont Avenue was <br />being improved. Mr. Moje stated that additional parking was <br />required due to the expansion and was being bid as an <br />alternative because of the expense involved, and other parking <br />locations were being explored which would not take away land <br />from the playground. <br /> <br /> Mr. Pezzoli requested that Council formally approve the <br />plans so that they will be accepted by the State Department. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />renovation plans for Clark Elementary School were formally <br />approved by Council as presented. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $112,825.07 - SNOW REMOVAL (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix presented a report on appropriations which <br />had been necessary for snow removal in the past few years. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary O'Connell, Deputy City Manager, noted that ice <br />in addition to snow has been costly to deal with in the <br />past. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that he felt funds should be set aside <br />in the budget each year for snow removal. <br /> <br /> The $112,825.07 appropriation for snow removal which <br />was offered at the April 20th meeting was approved by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, <br />Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the sum of $112,825.07 is <br />hereby appropriated from the unappropriated balance of the <br />General Fund of the City to expenditure account 01-31020 to <br />fund extraordinary costs incurred by the Department of Public <br />Works, including overtime wages and additional fringe <br />benefits, salt and chemicals, vehicle maintenance and repair, <br />and incidental expenses incurred for snow removal during the <br />period January 1 through March 15~ 1987. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />$370,079.00 - SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM <br /> <br /> The $370,079.00 appropriation for the Summer Youth <br />Employment Program which was offered at the April 20th <br />meeting was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. <br />Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: <br />None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br /> Charlottesville, Virginia that the sum of $360,079.00 to be <br /> received by the City as fiscal agent for the Piedmont Job <br /> Training Administration from federal~ Job Training Partnership <br /> Act Funds is hereby appropriated to expenditure account <br /> 29-50000 for the operation by the Piedmont Job Training <br /> Administration of a summer youth employment program. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: AMENDING SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR COVENANT SCHOOL <br /> <br /> <br />
