Mr. Hendrix <br />noted that after improvements are made to McIntire Park, <br />activities such as this and the Dogwood Festival would not be <br />able to take place in the park. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the $5 million bond sale had been <br />delayed a week in the hope that better rates would be <br />available. Mr. Hendrix informed Council that the City had <br />again received a AAA rating. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe requested that Ms. Judith Mueller, Director of <br />Public Works, comment on a letter recently written to Heritage <br />Christian School concerning safety signs on Park Street. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mueller stated that a letter had been written <br />notifying Heritage Christian School that the City was <br />proposing to remove the safety signs at the entrance to their <br />schools because to the City's knowledge, no students walk to <br />or from school and because no other private schools are <br />provided this service by the City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe stated that he hoped the decision would be <br />reconsidered as students cross the street during the day going <br />to and from an activity field. <br /> <br /> Ms. Mueller stated that the letter was an attempt to open <br />dialogue with the school on the subject. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck announced the T. Edward Temple Award recently <br />presented to Mr. Hendrix for outstanding performance in public <br />service by the Virginia Chapter of the American Society of <br />Public Administrators on May 1st in Roanoke. Mr. Buck also <br />announced that Mr. Hendrix had been elected the first <br />president of the newly formed Virginia Local Government <br />Management Association, which was a merger of city and county <br />associations. <br /> <br />On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Barnes, Council <br /> <br /> <br />
