211 <br /> <br />Virginia for local operation of fire protection programs is <br />hereby appropriated to expenditure account 11-25080 in the <br />Grants Fund for the purchase of firefighting equipment and <br />related training expenses. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $8,700 - SIDEWALK REIMBURSEMENT (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> The $8,700 appropriation for sidewalk reimbursement <br />which was offered at the May 18th meeting, was approved by <br />the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr, Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />charlottesville, Virginia that the sum of $8,700, received <br />from the Historic Renovation Corporation as the adjacent <br />property owner's share of the cost of construction of the <br />Rugby Road sidewalk project is hereby appropriated to <br />expenditure account 05-34000 in the Capital Projects Fund <br />for expenditure in connection with future sidewalk projects. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />$10,000 - STUDY OF SOUTHSIDE AREA OF CITY <br /> <br /> Mr. Towe questioned whether there would be overlap <br />between this study and the study being conducted by the <br />Urban Design consultants, and if so, could the information <br />be shared. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Urban Design consultants <br />would be concentrating on design and the study of the <br />southside area of the City would focus on land use and <br />traffic. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason state that any information gathered by the <br />consultants would be shared. <br /> <br /> The $10,000 appropriation for the study of the <br />southside area of the City which was offered at the meeting <br />of May 18th, was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. <br />Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: <br />None. <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the sum of $10,000 is hereby <br />appropriated from the unappropriated balance of the General <br />Fund to expenditure account 01-33060 to pay a consultant to <br />study the Jefferson Park Avenue-Fontaine Avenue area of the <br />City. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: ADOPTING AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PLAN <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the proposed Affirmative Action <br />Plan details the methods to be utilized in the establishment <br />of job requirements, recruitment, hiring, training, <br />compensation, promotion, layoff, and recall of minorities <br />and women in achieving a representative .workforce. <br /> <br /> Mr. Louie Chapman, Assistant City Manager, summarized <br />the Affirmative Action Plan. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason questioned the statement t'hat the Plan <br />would be reviewed yearly, but would be reviewed in five <br />years by Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Chapman stated that staff would review the Plan on <br />a yearly basis and would keep the Council apprised of the <br />review, but the five-year review by Council would be more <br />extensive. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes stated that~he felt the proposed Plan <br />formalizes what the City has been trying to promote without <br />establishing quotas. Mr. Barnes recommended some minor <br />wording changes. <br /> <br /> <br />
