Noes: None. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: CLOSING A PORTION OF AN ALLEY~OFF LEXINGTON AVENUE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that neither staff nor the views had <br />any objections to closing a portion of an alley off <br />Lexington Avenue. <br /> <br />There was no one to speak on the matter. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND <br />DISCONTINUING AN ALLEY OFF LEXINGTON AVENUE" was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bill Atwood, a parent of children at Burnley-Moran <br />Elementary School, thanked Ms. Virginia Schatz, retiring <br />School Board member, for her service on the School Board. <br />Mr. Atwood supported the reappointment of Dr. Cliff Bennett. <br />Mr. Atwood stated that he felt the process of the School <br />Board's decision to pair the middle schools had been <br />detrimental to the community. Mr. Atwood supported the <br />appointment of Ms. Ruth Bell to the School Board, noting <br />that she will stick to eduational issues and will return <br />credibility to the School Board. <br /> <br /> Ms. Terry Bernier recommended that the ordinance be <br />amended to limit the School Board terms to two successive <br />terms to allow more community members the opportunity to <br />serve. Ms. Bernier questioned whether the matter would be <br />discussed by Council. <br /> <br /> Mr.~Buck stated that thematterwill be discussed if <br />requested by a Council member but that if Council is <br />satisfied with the current ordinance, then it would not be <br />formally discussed. <br /> <br /> Mr~ Barnes requested information concerning the terms <br />of School Board members in other municipalities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck requested a presentation from the City <br />Attorney's office regarding the new conflict of interest <br />law. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck requested that the City Attorney,s office <br />provide information on the impact of the recent zoning <br />decision made by the Supreme Court. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br /> Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session to <br /> discuss legal matters as exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(6) <br /> of the Virginia Freedom~of Information Act. <br />_~~..he meeting was adjourned. <br />~._President ~rk <br /> <br /> <br />
