227 <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Monday, <br />June 22, 1987 AT 7:30 p.m. AT THE Highrise for the Elderly. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> School Board Appointments <br /> <br />Report: Rio Road Improvements <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />HIGHRISE FOR THE ELDERLY - June 22, 1987 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: SCHOOL BOARD <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that there are three at-large vacancies <br />on the School Board. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason nominated Dr. Clifford Bennett for <br />reappointment. <br /> <br />Mr. Barnes nominated Mr. James Hingeley. <br /> <br />Dr. Hall nominated Ms. Linda Seaman. <br /> <br />Mr. Buck nominated Dr. Joseph Mooney for reappointment. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mr. Barnes, <br />nominations for the School Board were closed. <br /> <br /> Dr. Bennett was reappointed to a three-year term on the <br />School Board by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. <br />Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hingeley was appointed to a three-year term on the <br />School Board by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Dr. <br />Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: Mr. Buck and Mrs. Gleason. <br /> <br /> The reappointment of Dr. Mooney was defeated by the <br />following vote. Ayes: Mr. Buck and Mrs. Gleason. Noes: <br />Mr. Barnes, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. - <br /> <br /> Ms. Seaman was appointed to a three-year term on the <br />School Board by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. <br />Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> The terms for Dr. Bennett, Mr. Hingeley and Ms. Seaman <br />will become effective July 1, 1987 and will expire on June <br />30, 1990o <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason stated that it was gratifying to have <br />so many qualified applicants for the vacancies and noted <br />that the decision had been a very difficult one. <br /> <br />REPORT: RIO ROAD IMPROVEMENTS <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Albemarle County Board of <br /> Supervisors is ready to move forward on the expansion of Rio <br /> Road and has requested the City's position before the <br /> State proceeds with the improvements. Mr. Hendrix stated <br /> that the State proposes to expand Rio Road to five lanes <br /> from Route 29 to the bridge at the railroad tracks on Rio <br /> Road, where it would remain two lanes until the Meadowcreek <br /> Parkway is built. <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Community Development, <br />stated that the Planning Commission had discussed the matter <br /> <br /> <br />
