279 <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that the Falcon Club and the Miller <br />School Alumni, both non-profit organizations, had requested <br />that Council waive the license and fees for amusement <br />activities planned for the week of September 7th. <br /> <br /> It was estimated that the license and fees would amount <br />to approximately $338.00. It was noted that Council has <br />waived the license and fees for the Dogwood Festival and the <br />Jaycees Circus in the past few years. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes stated that he would abstain from the matter <br />due to a conflict of interest (member of the Miller School <br />Alumni). <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Towe, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br />Council voted to waive the license and fees for the <br />amusement activities planned by the week of September 7th by <br />the Falcon Club and Miller School Fund Raising Committee, <br />with Mr. Barnes abstaining. <br /> <br /> meeting was adjourned. <br /> President -- <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - September 8, 1987 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />minutes of the meeting of August 17th were unanimously <br />approved as presented. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION CONTRACTOR OF <br />THE YEAR AWARD - IVY LANDFILL CELL ~2 - PLECKER CONSTRUCTION <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck presented the American Public Works <br />Association Contractor of the Year Award to Mr. Peery <br />Plecker of Plecker Construction for the Ivy Landfill Cell <br />#2. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: CHARLOTTESVILLE ALBEMARLE CLEAN COMMUNITY <br />COMMISSION (CAC3) <br /> <br /> Mr. Charles Thompson, President of CAC3, gave a status <br />report to Council regarding the efforts of the Commission <br />which includes ongoing recycling, a community-wide cleanup, <br />and a Clean Business Club. Mr. Thompson stated that CAC3 <br />had been awarded second place in the Governor's Award for a <br />Clean Community. Mr. Thompson stated that CAC3 has been <br />working with Offender Aid and Restoration on cleanup efforts <br />and has been attempting to obtain cleanup assistance from <br />homeless citizens in the community. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: <br /> <br />(2nd reading) <br /> <br />~1,259,720 - MIDDLE SCHOOL REORGANIZTION <br /> <br /> The $1,259,720 appropriation for the Middle School <br />Reorganiztion which was offered at the August 17th meeting, <br />was approved by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. <br />Buck, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Noes: None. <br /> <br /> <br />
