224 <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Richards, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously voted <br />to meet in executive session for the purpose of discussing appointments to various City <br />boards or agencies and one other personnel matter, both authorized by Section 2.1-344(A) <br />(1) of the Virginia Code; and for the purpose of consultation with legal counsel and briefings <br />by staff.members, consultants or attorneys pertaining to actual or probable litigation, or other <br />specific legal matters requiting the provision of legal advice by counsel (two separate <br />matters), as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(7) of the Virginia Code. An executive session <br />on the second of these two matters (changes in the form of local government and related <br />alternatives) is also authorized by Section 15.2-2907(D) of the Virginia Code. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. <br />Daugherty, certified that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in <br />the executive meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public <br />business matters as were identified in the motion convening the executive meeting were <br />heard, discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br /> The meeting was adjourned. <br />P[-e~ident <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER - June 15, 1998 <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the following members present: Mr. <br />Cox, Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Richards, Ms. Slaughter. Absent: Mr. Toscano. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty presented outgoing Mayor Slaughter with a proclamation and flowers <br />and thanked her for her eight years of service on Council. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said that Ms. Slaughter has been a role model for women and their <br />daughters in the community. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Mary MacNeil, 710 Ridge Street, referring to the request by Albemarle County <br />that Meadowcreek Parkway, Phases I and II, and other City streets be designated as primary <br />roads, questioned how the City could support this and also its desire to restrict the <br />Meadowcreek Parkway to truck traffic since she understands that trucks must be allowed on <br />primary roads. <br /> <br /> Mr. Kevin Cox, 31 t Fairway Avenue, said that the City's ten new buses are terrific and <br />a good purchase, but he expressed concern with the administrative decision to remove <br />advertising from City buses and the resulting loss in revenue. Mr. Cox asked Council to <br />over-rule this decision. <br /> <br /> Referring to Ms. MacNeil's comments, Ms. Slaughter said that the City is checking <br />YT)OT regulations regarding trucks on primary roads. <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> The minutes of May 4 were amended by Ms. Richards and of May 18th amended by <br />Ms. Richards and Ivlr. Cox. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said she would like to see property owners use the construction occurring <br />there as an opportunity to revitalize all the commercial properties on 9th Street and King. <br /> <br /> <br />
