Absent: Mr. Toscano. <br /> <br />RECOGNITIONS/AWARDS <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty proclaimed September 27 as Friendship Day in celebration of the <br />fffiieth anniversary of the friendship of Helen Eitelberg and Mice Lieberman and their <br />service to the community. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty recogniz~ students of the Living Education Center of Ecology <br />and the Arts for their efforts to dean up Sche~_k's Branch and marking sewer drains <br />which encouraged peopte to be sensitive to the-Bay. <br /> <br /> Ms. Lydia von Breesen, a student at the Living Education Center, urged Council <br />to change their decision about the Meadowcreek Parkway as she said it will have a <br />negative impact on Schenk'sBranch. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. David Blount, new legislative liaison for the Thomas Jefferson Planning <br />District Commission, introduced himself to Council and said that he is in the process, of <br />putting together a draf~ legislative package for the 2000 General Assembly. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: PRESIDENT, PIEDMONT VIRGINIA COMMLrNITY COLLEGE <br /> <br /> Mr. Frank Friedman, President of Piedmont Virg:mia Community College, gave <br />an annualulxtate on the College. The college enrolled 7,000 students-last year, 1,707 of <br />whom were from the City. The College Neighborhood Center had 266 students last year, <br />9I from the City. Mr. Friedman said the College is in the initial phases of planning for <br />renovation ofthe main PVCC building. Mr. Friedman said that PVCC is partnering with <br />the community's largest employees on workforce development and is beginning a <br />partnership with the Virginia Piedmont Technology Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Coxthanked Mr. Friendship for PVCC's efforts, particularly in the <br />technology area, and asked for his thoughts on moving course offerings from PVCC into <br />the City~ <br /> <br /> Mr. Friedman said that some courses providedserve other areas in the state, but <br />other than that some courses could be offered in the City and he wilt explore that in the <br />future. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING/ORDINANCE: CONVEYANCE OF RESIDUAL BIGHT-OF- <br />WAY NEAR 250 BYPASS AND PARK STREET <br /> <br /> <br />
